<image:title>Medicaid Planning and Elder Law - Medicaid Planning and Elder Law.</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the greatest fears we have as we grow older is the need, at some point, to go into a nursing home. We face not only a loss of personal freedom, but the potential for significant financial expenses, as well. It is not necessary, however, to use your life savings to pay for it. With careful and individualized planning, whether in advance or as the result of an unexpected circumstance, it may be possible to protect your assets. Medicaid provides health coverage to eligible people who lack the money or sufficient health insurance to provide for their medical care. These include those 65 or older who need a nursing facility, and those who are blind or otherwise disabled. Individuals applying for Medicaid are bound by guidelines that include state residency, income limits, and asset limits. Both the federal government and the State of Ohio fund Medicaid, and it is administered at the county level by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Medicaid Long-Term Health Coverage provides additional services for persons who are aged, blind or have other disabilities, and who can satisfy additional Medicaid requirements. This program is most frequently used by nursing home residents or those in intermediate care facilities. It also provides an option that permits eligible persons to receive care in their homes. People using the Long-Term Health Package also receive coverage offered by the Basic Health Package, regardless of whether they are institutionalized or at home. Medicaid Planning is unique to each individual or family situation. If you have additional questions, we have attorneys at Sitterley, Vandervoort & Nixon Ltd who are skilled in Elder Law and can answer them. They can also discuss Medicaid planning options in greater detail.</image:caption>

<image:title>Guardianships - Guardianships.</image:title>
<image:caption>As a guardian, you are lawfully invested with the power, and charged with the duty, to take care of the affairs of someone else. It is up to you to manage the property and rights of that person who, whether by age or mental incapacity, is incapable of doing so. The most common guardianships are: Guardian of the Person: Grants the guardian the authority to make all of the day-to-day decisions of a personal nature on behalf of the ward. This include living arrangements, medical care, food and clothing. Guardian of the Estate: Grants the guardian the authority to make all financial decisions for the ward. Both these guardianships can be held by one person, or separately by two persons. Under the Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 2111, guardians are appointed and serve under the supervision of the County Probate Court. Commonly used alternatives to guardianships: Powers of Attorney Conservatorships Representative Payees Trusts If you need assistance with a guardianship or have addition questions, the experienced attorneys at Sitterley, Vandervoort & Nixon Ltd can help.</image:caption>

<image:title>Christina A. McGill - Christina A. McGill - Of-Counsel</image:title>
<image:caption>An interest in law came early for Christina. In Junior High, she was able to participate in a juvenile offender program representing another juvenile who had committed a petty theft. Later on in high school, being personally deposed as a witness to a criminal act further sparked the desire to know more. Christina attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where she graduated through an accelerated program in three years having earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business & Management with a focus in Spanish. She capitalized on the opportunities available to her by studying abroad in Spain and Ireland, completing an internship in an Irish law firm during her studies there. After college, Christina relocated to the Philadelphia area and joined a Complex Liability, Fidelity, and Surety section of a large firm as a paralegal for a year. Working on international cases led her to an amazing experience living for months in New York City as the firm prepared their case in the Federal Southern District of New York. This experience solidified Christina’s desire to practice law. In 2002, Christina began her legal education at the Dickinson School of Law, Pennsylvania State University’s law school. During her legal education she work as a law clerk, summer associate, and independent contractor for various firms in the Harrisburg and Philadelphia areas. Upon graduating law school in 2005, Christina relocated here to the central Ohio area with her husband Jared. Initially working as a legal intern at Stebelton, Aranda & Snider, Christina officially joined the Fairfield County legal arena in 2006. She was an associate working with the now dissolved firm of Krooner & Smith, LPA after passing the bar exam. It was there that Christina began working in her core areas of domestic relations, juvenile, and criminal law. In 2009, Christina opened up her own law firm, The Law Office of Christina A. McGill, LLC. The firm focused on Christina’s domestic relations, juvenile, and criminal expertise. This experience and focus was the perfect fit for Christina’s transition in the legal realm to serving as a Magistrate Fairfield County Domestic Relations Court from 2018-2021. Christina lives locally in rural Lancaster, Ohio with her husband, Jared and their six boys. Christina enjoys spending time enjoying her children’s sporting activities, traveling, and time outdoors.
